Senior Neutronic Analyst

Date: 13 May 2026

Location: Torino, IT

Company: newcleo

Role Description

We are seeking a Senior Neutronic Analyst to join the LFR Core Design Unit. The role involves performing neutronic analyses to support LFR core design and in-core fuel cycle performance evaluation. Key responsibilities include both modelling the cores of the relevant reactors and executing the calculations for the parameters of interest, in line with the established methods and procedures. The post holder will interface with multidisciplinary engineering teams across newcleo, ensuring effective collaboration and alignment across technical areas, and in particular will coordinate with other discipline leaders within the LFR Core Design Unit to support the Head of Unit and/or the Neutronics Discipline Leader in driving project progress. The role may also involve guiding and supporting junior team members in technical activities and day-to-day project execution.

Main Activities

  • Conduct neutronic calculations and analysis in support of the LFR core design, using Monte Carlo or deterministic codes
  • Perform calculations and analyses to support the evaluation and the optimisation of the in-core fuel cycle performance
  • Contribute to the developments of reactor physics methodologies, modelling standards, and calculation practices for LFR core design and in-core fuel cycle performance evaluation
  • Contribute to the validation of the neutronics codes and methods for core design
  • Promote effective information exchange and collaboration across the Engineering Department
  • Document work using modern tools and techniques, and produce high-quality, thoughtful technical reports

Desired Qualifications

Education

  • MSc in Nuclear Engineering or Energetic Engineering or Physics
  • PhD in Reactor Physics or a related discipline is a plus

Experience

  • Proven relevant industrial or research experience in core design as well as in-core fuel cycle management, including using deterministic and/or Monte Carlo neutronic codes (12+ years)
  • Hands-on experience with UOX and MOX in-core fuel management strategies

Technical skills

  • Deep understanding of neutronics and reactor physics, preferably for fast reactors
  • Proficient with nuclear data and the installation/processing of nuclear data libraries
  • Proficient in software engineering practices or scripting languages (Python)
  • Experience in international working groups on reactor physics, as well as related benchmark calculations and experiments, conducted internationally

Soft skills

  • Collaborative and team-oriented, with a proven ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and culturally diverse teams
  • Attention to detail but with an ability to identify key data for effective problem identification
  • Strong skills in documenting technical decisions, trade-offs, and design rationale
  • Autonomy and ownership of technical tasks
  • Leading small technical teams

Language Proficiency

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (CEFR C1+)
  • Fluent in Italian (CEFR C1+), French is a plus.
