Job Description
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to collaborate to the Lead Fast Reactor (LFR) design activities and experimental facilities, focusing-on engineering activities development for pressure-retaining and special/bespoke components with particular reference, but not limited to, operation in molten lead.
Main Activities
- Ensure the execution of design activities in accordance with best engineering practices.
- Develop the mechanical design of pressure equipment and bespoke mechanical components/mechanism, from basic up to detail drawing.
- Review the 3D model interfaces within a BIM context and PLM system.
- Define the methodologies for stress analysis of pressure equipment or bespoke mechanical components/mechanism according to the applicable construction code by using Finite Element Modelling.
- Contribute to the purchasing technical documentation for component supply.
- Technical evaluation and alignment of manufacturer bids for the supply of equipment.
- Preparation and participation in kick-off meetings, review meetings, design meetings and studies.
- Ensure that equipment manufacturers are delivering in accordance with the defined design and manage non-conformities. Supervise expediting.
- Verify the technical correctness of the engineering documents produced when the task is delegated by the Line Manager.
- Contribute to the development and update of newcleo’s General Specifications and standard procedures in the discipline.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
- Coordinate assigned work with other technical personnel as directed.

Desired Qualifications
- Degree in Nuclear, Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering. Master or PhD is a plus
- Fluent Italian and English. French is a plus.
- Experience of engineering aspects related to design, fabrication, and assembly of a pressure-retaining components.
- Experience in the application of specific construction codes (e.g., ASME, RCC-MRx and/or EURO codes).
- Good Knowledge of ANSYS Mechanical and Multiphysics for Structural Analysis purpose.
- Good knowledge of SolidWorks for 3D/2D Modelling is also an asset.
- Experience in a nuclear or other highly regulated environment and good understanding of safety aspects would be a definite advantage.
- Experience of engineering aspects related to manufacturing, design, fabrication, and assembly of complex/large mechanical components (including welding and non-destructive testing topics).
- Extensive knowledge of QA systems and their practical application.
- Not more than/At least 5 years’ experience (depending of seniority Junior/Senior) in an Engineering Unit at any industrial mechanical design company or at any mechanical workshop in one or more of the following fields: mechanical components design and manufacturing; manufacturing and assembly of large mechanical components / equipment; design components/mechanism for industrial application.
