Role description

newcleo is looking for a Linux system administrator who has the expertise and autonomy to support the scientific team in managing Linux workstations (Debian, RedHat) used for calculations and research with both open source and commercial software, both in physical then virtual environment.
The job position involves, in a Linux environment, the design, implementation and monitoring of the infrastructure and workstations, preparation and installation of software, monitoring of the environment.
The job also requires collaborating with other team members to develop and support processes for implementing and integrating Linux environments into the global IT infrastructure.

 

Main activities

  • Proactively maintain and develop all Linux infrastructure technology to maintain a 24x7x365 uptime service.
  • Engineering of systems administration-related solutions for various project and operational needs
  • Maintain best practices on managing systems and services across all Linux environments.
  • Fault finding, analysis and of logging information for reporting of performance exceptions.
  • Proactively monitoring system performance and capacity planning
  • Manage, coordinate, and implement software upgrades, patches, hot fixes on servers and workstations.
  • Create and modify scripts or applications to perform tasks.
  • Provide input on ways to improve the stability, security, efficiency, and scalability of the environment.
  • Collaborate with other teams and team members.

 

Desired qualifications

Mandatory technical skills:

  • Basic networking skills and experience of hybrid Linux/Microsoft network environments.
  • In depth knowledge of Linux: RedHat and Debian (at least).
  • Hands on experience with MySQL and/or other SQL DB.
  • Familiarity with VMWare management and concepts
  • Expert in Shell, Perl, and/or Python scripting.
  • Basic knowledge of protocols such as DNS, HTTP, LDAP, SMTP and SNMP.

 

Experience/Professional requirements:

  • Previous working experience as a Linux Administrator for 5 years or more
  • Knowledge, even if not professional, of Windows and Mac OS environments
  • Additional Linux certifications (RHCT, RHCE and LPIC) will be considered a plus.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science is a plus.


Languages:

  • Fluent English. French and/or Italian is a plus.
