Role description

To collaborate to the Lead Fast Reactor (LFR) design activities for balance of plant and experimental facilities, focusing on design aspects related to pressure vessels, rotating machines and machineries of steam / condensate cycle, utilities and water treatment. 
 

Main activities

  • Perform mechanical engineering in all project phase.  
  • Carry out feasibility studies, conceptual design, basic and front-end design, detail engineering design. 
  • Develop internal standards for rotating and static equipment. 
  • Cooperate to the preparation of P&IDs, drawings and documents for tendering. 
  • Supervise the execution of assembly and fabrication drawings. 
  • Preparation of specifications and material requisitions for the supply of rotating and static equipment. 
  • Technical evaluation and alignment of manufacturer bids for the supply of equipment. 
  • Preparation and participation in pre-award meetings, kick-off meetings, pre-inspection meetings and inspections for supply of equipment. 
  • Preparation and participation in kick-off meetings, review meetings, design meetings and studies. 
  • Support equipment manufacturer, by applying knowledge of design codes for high pressure equipment, such as ASME and PED. 
  • Ensuring the supply of deliverables and services are in accordance with the defined scope of work and delivery schedule. 
  • Ensure that equipment manufacturers are delivering in accordance with the defined quality level and manage non-conformities. 
  • Knowledge of the inspection expertise of third-party inspections. 
  • Provide creative solutions in mechanical and equipment design, prepare and update mechanical engineering design manuals, general specifications and standard equipment data sheets. 
  • Set up work practices, processes, procedures, and instructions. 
  • Contribute to the development of 3D model. 
  • Participate to the identification of breakthrough solutions to the most complex engineering challenges. 
  • Develop testing processes, and perform testing and validation of new designs 
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams. 
  • Coordinate assigned work with other technical personnel as directed.

Desired qualifications
Education:     

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Master or PhD is a plus.

 

Languages:     

  • Fluent Italian and English, French is a plus.

 

Experience / Professional requirements: 

  • 5 years’ experience in mechanical design of static and rotating equipment, valves, and piping systems in industrial plants. Experience in steam turbines is desirable. Experience in power or nuclear ’ balance of plant’ is a plus. 
  • Knowledge of standards for pressure vessels and/or rotating equipment (ASME, PED). 
  • Knowledge of project engineering cycle for development of feasibility, basic design, FEED, detailed engineering, commissioning and start-up. 
  • Good knowledge of design and analysis principles for large or complex systems. 
  • Understanding of analytical techniques and relevant design codes. 
  • Ability to participate in team meetings and give technical presentations.
