Role Description
We are looking for a Civil Engineering Discipline Area Manager who will collaborate to the Lead Fast Reactor (LFR) and Mixed Oxide fuel (MOX) factory Design and R&D activities, focusing-on Civil Engineering discipline development (LFR Plant Civil Structure Design; and MOX Plant Civil Structure Design) with particular reference, but not limited to, construction practices and works. 
Accountable to both LFR and MOX Engineering Department for the planning and management of Disciplinary activities within his/her Area, for the Technical Discipline quality, integrity, capability, competency and performance of his/her task, and for the Technical Contents of all deliverables within his/her scope.


Main Activities

  • Civil Engineering Discipline authority.
  • Accountable to both LFR and MOX Engineering Director for the integration of the engineering technical units within his Area across the different engineering phases and R&D phases, in order to achieve the technical project objectives in the most efficient and effective manner.
  • To be accountable and responsible for the definition of the Disciplinary Area roadmaps and preserve the newcleo strategic vision across the Units operation superseding the delivery of relevant results and their substantiation.
  • Company expert and point of contact for multiple projects across the business, advising on all aspects of Discipline design solutions and technologies throughout the product lifecycle.
  • To ensure the performance of activities related to the Disciplinary Area in accordance with the best practice while promoting any opportunities for the “agile approach” implementation.
  • To guarantee the connection across the ancillary Disciplinary Areas.
  • Responsible for the quality surveillance of Disciplinary activities output, adherence to standards and legislation, regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • To ensure the final consistency of the set of deliverables in accordance with the efficiency objectives established for each project, the business area and company.
  • To consolidate the workload/workforce forecast presented by Heads of Unit and propose to both LFR and MOX Engineering Director the "make or buy" strategy concerning the Area.
  • To guarantee the harmonization of procedures, codes and standards which are the most applicable for the development and substantiation of the Disciplinary activities.
  • Responsible for the checking and approval (consistency and coherence) of the scope readiness for engineering process stages concerning his/her discipline.
  • To promote the technical task forces supporting and advising towards resolution of engineering issues and complex/multidiscipline problem solving within the Area.
  • To escalate issues and seek advice from both LFR and MOX Engineering Director when encountering complex problems.
  • To support Heads of Unit in technical discussion with External Entities.
  • To identify the possible need for the acquisition of new knowledge/updates and of technical Know-How development for his/her discipline.
  • To be capable of properly identifying requirements, scope of works and costs relevant to his/her discipline for contract execution.
  • Support to the Project Engineer in reviewing (consistency and coherence) a detailed schedule relevant to all activities within Area's scope, along with a complete List of relevant Deliverables, for specific project in the business.
  • Responsible for the operational direction of the Area, by supporting the Head of Units in resources management, development and training.
  • Responsible for reporting on budgetary, schedule, Key Performance Indicator’s aspects of Programme within the Area.
  • Able to anticipate potential risks and lead continuous improvement initiatives on a day-by-day basis relevant to the technical discipline(s) of the Area.
  • Management of the function SQEP process pertaining to the Area.
  • To support both LFR and MOX Engineering Director about LFE/REX (lesson learned) gathering feedback from project delivery and feeding into policies and procedures.
  • To apply the company procedures for Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety Systems and Organizational Models.
  • Maintaining safety, discipline and control of allocated staff and contractors in accordance with HR Guidelines.

 

Desired Qualifications        

  • M.Sc. in Civil, Structural Engineering or equivalent    
  • For all locations: Working knowledge of English is a must
  • For location in Italy: Fluent Italian, French is a plus
  • For location in France: Fluent French, Italian is a plus
  • For location in UK: Italian or French is a plus
  • Extensive Engineering Management and Workplace Experience (minimum 15 years continuous and technical relevant experience of which at least 10 technical authority/signatory) ideally in the field of power plant construction practices and works.
  • Meaningful and rich experience in a managerial role within the industry, including experience with project management.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with demonstrated experience managing complex projects and diverse Engineering teams.
  • Experience in the nuclear industry is a strong plus. As an alternative, experience in a strongly regulated environment and good understanding of safety aspects would constitute an advantage.
  • Track record of excellence in one or more of the following areas: (i) Civil Construction Design; (ii) Ground conditions and foundation design; (iii) Civil Structure Design for External hazards such as Seismic, Wind, Flooding, Aircraft crash; and (iv) Modularisation and constructability.
  • Extensive knowledge of QA systems and their practical application.
  • Extensive knowledge of the provisions related to the Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety Management System.
