Role Description
We are looking for a Chief Engineer who will support the Engineering Director (ED) for the developing, managing, and maintaining a full complement of R&D, engineering, and design capabilities in the newcleo’s Global LFR Engineering department (ENG) team progressing our exciting lead-cooled fast reactor (LFR) projects.
Main Activities
- Support the ED with the delivery of Functional, Safety, Legislative, Technical, Capability, Business and Commercial responsibility in terms of technical and quality content and efficiency.
- Support the ED for the integration of all the engineering Areas/Units across the different design phases, in order to achieve the technical project objectives, statutory requirements, and regulatory expectations in the most efficient and effective manner.
- Supports ED in approval of the Design Plan proposed by Lead Project Engineer.
- Support the ED for the operational direction of the Engineering Department: resources management, development and training.
- Responsible for reporting on budgetary, schedule, Key-Performance Indicator’s aspects of Programme across ENG.
- Support ED for the development and maintenance of the Engineering functional procedures and legislative requirements compliance.
- Management of the function SQEP process within ENG.
- Accountable to establish the training budget and development programs orientation of the ENG personnel.
- Supervise and support the Area Managers to ensure the final quality of the set of deliverables in accordance with the efficiency objectives established for each task.
- Support ED in getting the necessary background to formulate choice about design in-house or buy outsourced design packages.
- Supporting the supervision of quality for engineering outputs to the adherence to standards, legislation and contractual requirements, with a focus on feedbacks across all involved Units (cross cutting disciplinary Areas or Interfaces checks).
- Accountable to ED for the checking and approval of the scope readiness for design process stages.
- Assess and approve the technical specifications for plant modifications, designed to the improvement of nuclear safety and optimization of technological process.
- Monitoand control the implementation of plant modifications with compliance to approved specifications.
- Monitor and control the activities of plant designer and contractors, related to engineering, modification implementation and R&D activities related to optimization of plant operation.
- To support Project Engineers for the identification of the logic and priority for the delivery of the technical documents across within ENG and other departments for a specific Project.
- Promoting the technical task forces supporting and advising towards resolution of engineering issues and complex/multidiscipline problem solving across within ENG.
- Proactively initiates and promotes continuous improvement into policies and procedures.
- LFE/REX (lesson learned) from project delivery evaluation and implementation into policies and procedures.
- Responsible for CAPEX - OPEX forecast with Engineering Department.
- To apply the company procedures for Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety Systems and Organizational Models.
- Maintaining safety, discipline and control of allocated staff and contractors in accordance with HR Guidelines.
Desired Qualifications
- M.Sc. in Industrial, Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering or equivalent.
- For all locations: Working knowledge of English is a must
- For location in Italy: Fluent Italian, French is a plus
- For location in France: Fluent French, Italian is a plus
- For location in UK: Italian or French is a plus
- Extensive Engineering Management and Workplace Experience (minimum 15 years continuous and technical relevant experience of which at least 10 technical authority/signatory) , ideally in the field of generation IV nuclear systems, or SMRs.
- Meaningful and rich experience in a managerial role within the industry (Nuclear Industry Experience is a plus), including experience with project management.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with demonstrated experience managing complex projects and R&D programs.
- Proven track record in people management, development and leadership of performance improvement and culture change.
- Specialism in one or more of the areas typical of a Tier 2 Nuclear design.
- Comprehensive nuclear engineering technical knowledge.
- Extensive knowledge of QA systems and their practical application.
- Extensive knowledge of the provisions related to the Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety Management System.
