Overview of the role:

 

newcleo is driving forwards an exciting and challenging international programme to develop and deploy our innovative Lead-cooled Fast Reactor technology.  Our Supply Chain team is responsible for Procurement, Contract Management and Supply Chain Management & Development and we are looking for highly motivated and pro-active Senior Procurement Manager to lead the procurement team and activity in the UK and contribute to the delivery of a Global Supply Chain Organisation, Strategy and approach to benefit all the progammes across newcleo.

 

You will work as part of the newcleo Global Supply Chain team and will be responsible with the Senior Procurement Managers from France and Italy for developing, implementing and ensuring compliance with a procurement process to ensure a global approach whilst meeting the requirements of the newcleo programmes. You will work with your Supply Chain colleagues to ensure that any process developed complements and interfaces with the suite of Supply Chain processes. You will work closely with the Engineering and Project Delivery teams in the UK leveraging the talents and capabilities of our people across Europe to ensure alignment of approach.

As newcleo is a startup company the role will require a hands-on proactive approach, the individual must be comfortable with early stage programmes and have the ability to work with ambiguity and change and be able to build strong relationships with colleagues from across newcleo’s functions and group of companies. The role provides the opportunity for an individual to grow their capability and experience through supporting active Supply Chain management, working with the Head of Supply Chain and Contracts UK with the opportunity to progress within the organisation.

 

Reporting Lines

 

The role will report directly to the Head of Supply Chain and Contracts - UK as part of the UK Supply Chain Team, the role will also closely interface with Supply Chain colleagues in France and Italy as well as interface with the rest of the UK based teams and programmes , particularly the UK Project Delivery Directors, Programme Management Office (PMO), Quality, Environment Social and Governance, Stakeholder Engagement and Finance teams.

 

Location

 

The role will be a mix of office working based in Manchester or Gloucester for a minimum of 3 days per week and home working.  In addition, there will be the need for travel to our other UK office locations (London, Manchester and Gloucester), France and Italy to support coordination with the other newcleo Supply Chain functions.  There will also be the need for travel to visit suppliers, this will be on a Local, Regional and Global basis.

 

The core duties & responsibilities the role will cover includes:

 

  • Develop and implement appropriate policies, procedures, standards and governance to deliver a best-in-class procurement service within the UK and Globally
  • Lead the procurement activities in the UK and promote and support a global approach to procurement and identification and utilisation of a Local (UK), Regional (Europe) and Global supply chains
  • Contribute to the development and implementation to a Category Management approach with UK, French and Italian colleagues
  • Lead on some supplier qualification activities to build the newcleo approved suppliers list Responsible for the identification of commercial risks and opportunities and, developing mitigation and realisation plans.
  • Contribute to the development of and ensure delivery aligns to the Global & Local Supply Chain and individual procurement Strategies
  • Provide procurement support, advice and assistance to the UK and Global project delivery, Engineering and Research & Development teams ensuring procurements / contracts deliver expected outcomes and commercial risks are managed and mitigated.
  • Lead the development of a procurement plan for the UK, working with PMO and share best practice and contribute to the development of a Global procurement plan that identifies all newcleo’s procurement needs and ensure it is effectively and efficiently delivered.
  • Contribute to the global supply chain map and database
  • Identify opportunities to optimise supply chain efficiencies
  • Support the delivery of newcleo’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) requirements through the supply chain
  • Develop and deliver training as required to newcleo colleagues
  • Support on contract management and supply chain management & development activities if appropriate
  • Support collaborative working relationships with supply chain partners and delivery of the plan to achieve accreditation to ISO 44001Collaborative Business Relationships
  • Work with newcleo colleagues across the business to share lessons learnt and best practise with the intent of setting up common arrangements where appropriate.

Is this role right for you?

 

We would like to speak to people who have:

 

  • Demonstrable experience of leading procurement teams in a nuclear or regulated sector across a broad sector of goods and services. 
  • Typically a degree in Engineering, Business Management, Quantity Surveying, Commercial/Cost Management or similar, and have also achieved or are working towards a Professional Qualification MCIPS, MRICS or equivalent.
  • Experience of NEC, FIDIC and other standard or bespoke forms of contract would be advantageous.
  • Up to date knowledge of the nuclear sector supplier landscape would be advantageous
  • Ideally experience of both pre and post contract activities covering procurement, contract management and supply chain management.
  • Right to work full time in the UK & can achieve a national security clearance equivalent to a BPSS standard, or higher, within a reasonable period.
  • Strong organisational, leadership, interpersonal and collaborative skills to build effective relationships with newcleo colleagues, the wider newcleo business and the supply chain.
  • Exceptional commercial negotiation skills and comfortable working in an entrepreneurial / start up environment
  • Willing to consider new, collaborative and innovative approaches; Solution focussed whilst able to constructively challenge.
