Overview of the role:
newcleo is driving forwards an exciting and challenging international programme to develop and deploy our innovative Lead-cooled Fast Reactor technology. newcleo have ambitions to enter into the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process and are currently undertaking activities to prepare for prospective entry into the process.
The GDA Project Engineer / Coordinator will provide leadership and coordination across a group of technical Topics for development of the Safety, Security, Safeguards and Environmental cases in support of Generic Design Assessment (GDA) of our FCU.
As a priority activity, we are bringing in a GDA Project Engineer / Coordinator to help us to build the overall GDA delivery plan, and shape the GDA delivery arrangements working closely with global engineering, engineering authority teams, and PMO. You will work closely with newcleo colleagues and key stakeholders to drive towards successful delivery of a 2-step GDA.
During GDA itself, it is envisioned the GDA Project Engineer / Coordinator will act as the interface between the GDA Project Manager and our Topic Leads, with a broad technical awareness across a range of safety, security, safeguards and environment topics. They will have effective project management skills, tracking progress for the Topic deliverables (strategies, plans and reports). The GDA Project Engineer / Coordinator will facilitate consistency within the project whilst driving collaboration on cross-cutting topics.
Reporting to our GDA & Safety Case Project Manager, UK Operations, the core duties & areas the role will cover includes:

Act as the interface between the GDA Project Manager and Topic Leads.

Effectively manage the delivery of Safety, Security and Environment case deliverables for topics in their respective areas.

Implement effective interface arrangements between our global engineering teams, the PMO, and other key stakeholders.

Work with the other Delivery Lead(s) and Design Teams to coordinate delivery on cross-cutting topic areas across the design.

Identify and managed dependencies between different workstreams.

Ensure consistent implementation of processes.

Identify risks to project delivery. Develop and manage mitigation strategies.

Provide project reporting to our Technical Working Group and Steering Committees.

Supporting regulatory interactions in their topic areas. This includes supporting regulatory meetings, and management of regulatory queries, observations, issues and commitments within areas of responsibility.

Manage commercial arrangements to ensure supply chain support is available for identified topic areas.

Apply best practices in project management in line with newcleo processes and procedures, and ensure projects are delivered to time, cost, quality and without compromise to achieving world class safety, security and environmental outcomes.
The role can be based in our London, Manchester or Gloucester offices, where we have a hybrid & flexible working policy of 3 days per week in the office. There is also travel opportunities to our offices in Turin (Italy) and Lyon (France), in order to collaborate and build strong working relationships across our Global Team.

A technical background and strong interpersonal skills to transition towards project management.

Ability to establish and drive consistency in processes and outputs within an evolving organisation – identifying inefficiencies, standardising workflows, facilitating alignment across teams to enhance overall productivity and quality

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, project management, or a related field.

Demonstrable experience in project delivery environment, ideally within the energy or infrastructure sectors.

Familiarity with nuclear industry standards and regulatory processes.

Experience in interacting with nuclear regulators.

Experience with design processes and production of technical deliverables
-
Familiarity with requirements and regulation surrounding safety, environment and security case development (including application of ALARP, BAT, Secure-by-Design) and elements of site licensing and permitting pertinent to development of those cases.
