Role Description

The HSE Site Specialist supports the implementation and day-to-day management of Health, Safety and Environmental activities at Site level, ensuring compliance with Company QHSE management systems and with applicable Italian legislation (D.Lgs. 81/08, D.Lgs. 152/06 and related regulations).

Acting as ASPP (Addetto al Servizio di Prevenzione e Protezione), the role contributes to risk assessment activities, identification of preventive and protective measures, inspection programmes, incident reporting and HSE performance monitoring.

The HSE Site Specialist works under the coordination of the HSE Manager and in collaboration with the Site Manager, employees, contractors and suppliers to ensure the effective application of HSE policies, procedures and controls across all Site activities, including R&D, construction and commissioning phases.

The position supports the promotion of a positive HSE culture, the delivery of training and internal communication initiatives, and the preparation of HSE documentation and reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Main activities

The successful candidate will support and contribute to the following activities:

  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the Health, Safety and Environmental management system at Site level in line with Company standards and Italian legal requirements.
  • Perform routine HSE inspections, audits and workplace monitoring activities, reporting findings and supporting the definition and follow-up of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support the development and update of Risk Assessments (DVR), method statements and HSE plans in cooperation with the relevant functions.
  • Ensure the correct application of HSE procedures by Company personnel and contractors on Site.
  • Participate in the investigation and analysis of accidents, near misses and non-conformities, contributing to root cause analysis and action tracking.
  • Monitor HSE performance indicators and maintain HSE records and reporting systems.
  • Support the organisation and delivery of HSE training, toolbox talks and awareness programmes for employees and contractors.
  • Assist in the management of emergency preparedness activities, drills and first response arrangements.
  • Contribute to the environmental monitoring activities and to the correct management of waste, emissions and environmental aspects.
  • Support the qualification and HSE assessment of suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Collaborate in the preparation of HSE reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide operational support during regulatory inspections and internal/external audits.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture and behavioural safety initiatives at Site level.

Desired qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree in a scientific or technical field relevant to the role.
  • ASPP qualification in accordance with Italian legislation (mandatory).
  • Additional HSE training and certifications are considered a plus.

Experience

Essential

  • 5+ years of previous experience in HSE roles in industrial, construction, energy, R&D or other highly regulated environments.
  • Deep knowledge of Italian HSE legislation (D.Lgs. 81/08 and D.Lgs. 152/06).
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 standards.
  • Experience in supporting risk assessments, site inspections and incident investigations.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive attitude and capability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Qualification as Auditor for ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 standards.
  • Experience working with contractors and on multi-company worksites.
  • Previous experience in international or matrix organisations

Mandatory

  • Right to work in the EU.
  • Availability for occasional business travel in Europe.

Language Proficiency:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (CEFR C1+).
  • Fluent in Italian (CEFR C1+), French is a plus.
